ABC’s Popular Reality Series to be Under Legal Action

Special Corespondent: James Jewett

The popular Bachelor and Bachelorette series will soon be dealing with a class action lawsuit. The lawsuit, set to be filed Wednesday, will be dealing with racial discrimination.

The Bachelorette is going into its 8th season and The Bachelor has finished its 16th for a combined total of 23 seasons. ABC first ran the Bachelor in 2002 and now in 2012 they could face a class action lawsuit for racial discrimination.

Behind this legal attack are NFL aspiring football players Nathaniel Claybrooks and Christopher Johnson who claim that in its 10 years of running the two shows have never featured a person of color as the Bachelor or Bachelorette.

Their claim has merit however it’s not to say that African American people haven’t been contestants on the show. In 2011 Entertainment Weekly had the same query for the executive producer of the shows, Mike Fleiss. He said,

We always want to cast for ethnic diversity, it’s just that for whatever reason, they don’t come forward. I wish they would.

According to the Hollywood Reporter the defendants in the case will be ABC, production companies Warner Horizon Television, Next Entertainment, and NZK Productions, and Mike Fleiss.

Not only are concerned fans and entertainment junkies turning to this but also legal minds. Former vice president of ISS’ Securities Class Action Services, Bruce Carton has set the stage for an online legal discussion. Follow that Here.
