Batman vs. Superman Casting News!

Jesse-Eisenberg-in-The-Social-Network

Warner Brothers has officially announced who will be portraying not just Lex Luthor in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman film, but also Alfred Pennyworth. Jessie Eisenberg will portray Luthor, and Jeremy Irons will be the next butler for Bruce Wayne.

My initial reaction to this was to assume that maybe this news was false, but once realizing this is the real deal I’ve come to the conclusion that this isn’t terrible news. For starters, look at the calculating way Jessie Eisenberg played Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network. He was cold, ruthless, and didn’t give a damn about those who got in his way for establishing Facebook in his name. The kid can act, and just maybe his on-screen quality of being able to project an unlikeable aura is just what the next rendition of Lex Luthor needs.  It’s my guess that the director of the upcoming film, Zack Snyder, saw much of the same acting range of Eisenberg’s previous work and decided this could be a home run casting decision.

Lastly, the casting of Jeremy Irons as Alfred also seems like a natural fit. Granted, ten years ago I’m sure many could have seen him portraying Lex Luthor, but now that he’s gotten much older, it’s not a stretch of the imagination to see him as Bruce Wayne’s right hand man.

Either way, this is news that Warner Bros needed to establish sooner than later moving forward. Ensuring the audience gets an idea of who the lead villain will be is a step in the right direction if DC and Warner Bros wants a fighting chance to take on Marvel’s already established universe of comic book heroes.
