According to a report from Dailymail.com (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4077472/Carrie-Fisher-s-death-trigger-biggest-personal-accident-insurance-claim-Disney-took-41MILLION-policy-case-couldn-t-finish-Star-Wars-films.html), Disney will cash in on $43 million via an insurance policy they had taken out on the actress prior to filming the new trilogy of Star Wars films.

If true, I have one word for this: Unfreakingbelievable!!!

Seriously folks, this is why the word “despicable” is in the dictionary. Why does Disney, a gazillion dollar corporation mind you, need to take out such an egregious policy on Carrie Fisher?

To be fair, these types of policies are taken out on other actors and actresses in the event of a worst case scenario. However, why did it need to be for such a king’s ransom? As cited in the report linked above, the primary reason is because her character, General Leia, will now need to be written out of the 3rd installment of the new trilogy (Episode IX).

So you’re telling me that they need 41 freaking euros (approximately $43m US) to be able to effectively re-write the story? Give me a break. This is the same company that sold out their own IT employees in the last year, and forced them to train their overseas replacements.

More importantly, they also threatened these employees with no severance had they not trained their replacements. Bush league at its finest, people.

Nothing like a brand that’s packaged in the ideals of “where dreams come true!” is able to profit off the back of a loved and now sadly dead actress. How poignant, eh?

You know, George Lucas, the original founder of the Star Wars Universe, is probably shaking his head right now with this news. After all, he dubbed Disney a bunch of “White Slavers” over a year ago after selling the entire property to them.

People slammed him for it and he ultimately retracted it, but, hmm, most interesting, indeed.

Bottom line, he wouldn’t have taken such a policy out on his crew. Many probably forget, but it was he (Lucas) who came to the aid of Mark Hamill after he suffered severe injuries in a car accident in the late 70s– Lucas foot the bill to have his face surgically repaired. Right, sounds like someone who wouldn’t take out the largest EVER personal accident insurance claim on one of their actors/actresses.

Disney really ought to be ashamed of themselves right now from the top brass on down.

Now, that’s my personal opinion on it, but I’m curious to see what anyone else out there thinks of this news? Does Disney really need that kind of loot in order to rewrite one movie? Feel free to chime in below!! Nuff said.
