George Clooney Sent to The Slammer For Standing Up for People’s Rights?

Written by Special Correspondent Karla Gregg

Actor, George Clooney was arrested Friday for taking part in a staged protest outside the Sundanese embassy in Washington, D.C. Two days earlier, Clooney had testified before Congress about the “campaign of murder” in Sudan. The purpose of the protest was to get country’s president Omar al-Bashir attention, provoking a crisis with his blockade of humanitarian aide.

Clooney had referred to this situation in earlier interviews where he stated that if something wasn’t done in the next couple months there would be a real humanitarian disaster.

The actor took a stand when authorities arrested him Friday morning after warning him to leave the site. While this occurred Clooney said,

“This is for the government in Khartoum to stop randomly killing its own innocent men, women and children. Stop raping them and stop starving them. That’s all we ask.”

Clooney along with his father, journalist Nick Clooney, U.S. Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia; NAACP President Ben Jealous as well as others were taken into custody and placed in a Secret Service van.

Sounds like an action movie where Clooney portrays the leading man, doesn’t it? But in this case, it was a real arrest and it didn’t come to a surprise to many.

The Washington Post noted, “By standing on the embassy’s private property, they’re likely to get cuffed, arrested and charged.”

Gladly, the talented actor was released Friday afternoon.
