With the 30th Anniversary of Ghostbusters (Summer of 1984) nearing, definitive plans have been made for the classic film to be re-released in roughly 700 theaters across the country on August, 29th.
Everything from collectibles, to special events will be ongoing during the labor day weekend of the return of Ghostbusters to the big screen. Sony’s President of worldwide distribution, Rory Bruer, had this to say about the anniversary celebration: Ghostbusters is still one of our studio’s most beloved franchises. I was lucky enough to work on the release of the film on its first run, so it’s a real thrill for me to see that it’s still connecting with audiences everywhere. On the big screen or in home entertainment, this is a great movie to experience again and again.
Additionally, on September 16th, there will be a Blu-ray release of not just the original Ghostbusters film, but for the first time Ghostbusters II will finally be available in the high-definition format. Without question, it’s a great time to be a fan of the Ghostbusters franchise in general.
