This is practically perfect in every way!! Hamilton creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emily Blunt are set to star in Mary Poppins Return. This will be the sequel to Disney’s 1964 classic Mary Poppins. The movie is scheduled to release on Christmas 2018.
The film will be directed by Rob Marshall, with the screenplay by David Magee based on The Mary Poppins Stories by P.L. Travers. The Hairspray songwriting team of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman will compose an original musical score.
Emily has been cast as Mary Poppins and Lin will play a new character very much like Dick Van Dyke, a street lamplighter named Jack. The story will take place in Depression-era London (when the books were originally written) and follows a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.
