Katherine Bigelow’s ‘DETROIT’ Opens in Limited Release, July 25.

Academy Award winning director Katherine Bigelow tells a tale of anger and grief in DETROIT.

With 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Katherine Bigelow’s (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) DETROIT opens Friday in limited release with a nationwide premier August 4th.

Katherine Bigelow, who studied under Susan Sontag, reunites with screenwriter Mark Boal, and director of photography from The Hurt Locker Barry Ackroyd, to bring the chilling story of the Detroit riots to life.

Billed as a Crime/Drama, the film focuses on the torture-killing of 3 black teenagers 50 years ago in Detroit. The incident sparked ongoing riots so fierce the National Guard had to be brought in. Detroit still bears the visual and emotional scars of the occurrence. Mark Boal’s script touches not only on the ugly truth of police brutality, but the racism rampant in law enforcement, and the militarization of the American police, evident today.

Starring John Boyega, Will Poulter, Jack Reynor, John Krasinski and Anthony Mackie.
