Katie Holmes divorce with Tom Cruise might seem like it was sudden but it involved careful planning.
“She was talking to Tom on the phone up until last week saying, ‘I love you,’ ” a source who knows the actress, told PEOPLE.
Her plan started by renting a new apartment in New York City early June. Which Tom wasn’t suspicious of a divorce because he thought she rented it for different.
“”It was the first phase of getting everything out of the house, and that’s why she was able to say she’s moving without giving an indication that she was going to divorce him,” added the source.
Holmes and her close group of people had been planning this and switching out her cellphone since she was in China, mid-June. The source said that not even her old best friends have been able to reach her since last week.
Last week, her father, Martin Holmes, helped her clean out her house before she filed for divorce.
Tom Cruise who was filming, was surprised to hear the sudden news.
