#Life (Review)

Miranda North (Rebecca Ferguson) in Columbia Pictures’ LIFE.

‘Life’ is definitely the first genre film for sci-fi/horror that’s come around in a long, long time and not embarrassed itself like so many other films that have dared to copy ‘ALIEN’… For that alone, I give it a well deserved golf clap, and can assure anyone that wants to see it there are plenty of severely tense and unnerving scares. Add to it, the creature the crew has to deal with is nothing short of terrifying as it evolves from beginning to end.

There’s really more good than bad here, and what really prevents it from going near forgettable territory are the performances from a first rate cast with the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds, and Hiroyuki Sanada–  If I had to indict this film on falling a bit short it’s that it’s a little too predictable at times. Regardless though, more good than bad by all involved. I especially liked Gyllenhaal’s character development (David Jordan) of a man who simply grew tired of life on earth.

And without giving anything extra away specifically, I’ll just say it was nice to see a movie like this not go the route of a “Hollywood” ending… So with all that in mind, it’s definitely worth seeing on the big screen.

Is it a long-term classic? I’m not sure because I gotta let this one percolate in my mind for the next couple of years. But in the here and now, it warrants anyone’s attention who love them a well made sci-fy/horror flick! Nuff said.
