It’s official…Lin-Manuel Miranda is saying goodbye to Alexander Hamilton on July 9th but he says he will be back! Before the star and creator leaves Hamilton, the production will film two performances with the original cast this month, as well as shooting offstage cameos.

Lin says, “What are we doing with that footage? No idea. Throwing it in a vault at Gringotts for a bit probly. But we’re getting it.”

My thought would be to put it in theatres or somewhere we can stream. I would pay a little bit of money to watch it and have the money go to schools around the U.S. to help the arts.

The mega Tony Winner confirmed his departure at a breakfast event Thursday. Lin’s alternate, Javier Muñoz, already plays the Alexander Hamilton twice a week will take over starting July 11th. He replaces Lin when he left In the Heights as well.

Javier underwent cancer treatment during the show’s first year, during which Lin was his understudy. He says he finished his medical treatment back in January and he’s ready to go.  Lin says he doesn’t know what the rest of his co-stars are doing, if they are staying or leaving.

Lin is busy working on his accent for Mary Poppins Returns with Emily Blunt due Christmas 2018. He is also putting the finishing touches on the music for Disney’s animated film Moana, which arrives in theaters November 23. He says that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson can sing!

Producers are working on casting actors for the open-ended Chicago run of Hamilton opening September 27th. Lin says he hasn’t ruled out showing up there himself.  “I’d love to jump in, if only just for a day,” he added.

One of the dream places Lin wants to take the Pulitzer Prize-winning show…Puerto Rico. He took his previous Tony Award winning show In the Heights there for a week where his parents grew up.

I can’t wait to see Hamilton come to the big screen. I want the live version..not a movie.
