According to reports by Variety, three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep is in talks to join Disney’s Mary Poppins sequel film Mary Poppins Returns.

As previously announced, Mary Poppins Returns will star  Emily Blunt in the title role along with Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, a lamplighter in the mold of Bert. Streep would play the role of Poppins’ cousin, Topsy, a new character that was not part of the original 1964 film. The part would give Streep another chance to show off her vocal skills.

Inspired by the stories in P.L. Travers’ seven Mary Poppins novels, Mary Poppins Returns will reportedly take place in Depression-era London and follow a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

The film is set for release on December 25, 2018.
