Molly Shannon’s Drama ‘Other People’: Watch Trailer Video

Saturday Night Live writer, Chris Kelly used his own life as inspiration for his feature film directorial debut, Other People. It’s the story about a struggling gay comedy writer moving back home with his parents, while his mom battles cancer and his dad refuses to accept his sexuality. Following the film’s buzz-worthy premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, the not yet released film is already getting rave reviews.

Breaking Bad vet Jesse Plemons and Molly Shannon headline the film, being a former SNL-er herself. Bradley Whitford, Zach Woods, and June Squibb are also in the film.

Kelly, who also wrote the script, told IndieWire during Sundance, “My mom passed away in September 2009 and I wrote the first draft of this in the summer of 2012. It didn’t just happen and instantly I was like, ‘I’m going to write a movie about this.’ It was when I decided I wanted to try to write a feature. I wanted to write something I felt I could do in a truthful way.”
