#NESClassic to be Discontinued by Nintendo of America….

In what should go down as a proverbial high sign to their soon to be non-loyal customer base, Nintendo of America has officially announced that production of the NES Classic Edition will cease.  Earlier today they released the following statement on the matter:

Throughout April, [Nintendo of America] territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.

I would like to say I have no words to project my disappointment with Nintendo pulling this nonsense on their customers, young and old, but I do have a few thoughts on the matter. First and foremost, what kind of planning goes on with this company?

They have a golden oldie video game system that not just young people may want to enjoy for the first time, but SO MANY of the 30 and up crowd that remember playing the old school Nintendo back in the late 80s/early 90s absolutely wanted a piece of the pie.

So on nostalgia alone, you got me and everyone else from my generation that has nothing but fond memories of playing the NES many a nights.

It’s disconcerting at best when a company not only plans poorly in allowing such a shortage of this product to happen, but to add to that disorganization, this unit has only been about since November 11th!!

That’s what, barely six months? And now they’re “ending production.” Brilliant! As one headline I read earlier today quipped: Nintendo hates money, discontinuing the NES Classic.

The really unacceptable part in all of this? A great majority of the people who did manage to buy one in stores only purchased it to turn around and sell to the highest bidder online.

That’s what happens when the company manufacturing the product under estimates the desires of their consumer base– nobody wins, and prices get driven up exponentially on the black market. Bush league at best, Nintendo!

Here’s to hoping you reconsider your options and postpone production so that anyone wishing to pick one up has an honest shot at doing so. Nuff said.
