Oprah Winfrey May Return to Acting in Lee Daniels’ ‘The Butler’

Oprah may be returning to acting!

This could be her first role since 1998’s Beloved.

Oprah is thinking about an offer to co-star in The Butler, by Precious director Lee Daniels, a story of a black man who worked as a butler in the White House, serving eight presidents from 1952 to 1986.

Financing is still trying to be put together, but Daniels is trying to put together an top-notch cast.

Hugh Jackman, Mila Kunis and John Cusack have been approached to be in the movie as well. Sources say that Daniels wants David Oyelowo, who starred in the recent film Red Tails to portray the butler. Insiders say that Kunis would play Jackie Kennedy and Cusack would play Richard Nixon. It’s in unclear who Jackman would portrtay-The Hollywood Reporter

Oprah, who scored an Oscar nomination for The Color Purple, has lent her voice to films such as The Princess and the Frog and Charlotte’s Web but this will be her first on screen acting roll since Beloved. She is very picky about the films she does. I know she is a fan of Lee Daniels and said she wanted to work with Hugh Jackman so this would be a great project. Let’s see if they get financing which I think they will.
