Re-Release of ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ Celebrating 40th Anniversary

For one week, the Sci-Fi classic,  ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ will screen Nationwide.

Written and Directed by Steven Spielberg, ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ was one of those blockbuster sensations that never goes out of style. With a 20 million dollar budget, it has grossed over 300 million so far, and with a one-week 40th Anniversary re-release the bottom line will soar.

Richard Dreyfuss stars as Roy Neary, an electrical lineman from Indiana who has a close encounter with a UFO that flies over his head and burns his face with its bright lights. He becomes obsessed with UFO’s and has a recurring dream about a mountain. Years previous, a plane in the area disappeared with all the soldiers, never to be seen again. When the government becomes involved,  realizing there could be a UFO landing in the future they try to divert sightseers by proclaiming a chemical gas spill in the area. When Roy sees the image, he realizes it is the mountain he as been dreaming of, and this convinces his wife to join him in getting to the bottom of things, despite the chemical gas warning. Sure enough, he witnesses the event, where the ship lands and releases the soldiers from years past, who have not aged one bit. The head alien invites Roy to join them, and it’s an offer he can’t refuse.

Starring Richard Dreyfuss, Melinda Dillon (nominated for Best Supporting Actress), Teri Garr, Bob Balaban, Cary Guffey and Francois Truffaut. The film was nominated for many Oscars (winning for Best Cinematography).
