Remembering Doris Roberts #DorisRoberts

DorisIt was almost college graduation. I was in my last year and looking at being an entertainment reporter and hoping I could show I can do it.

I remember watching entertainment news, E!, Extra, something and thinking if they can do it I can do it. I know celebrities, I know TV, I love it all. I have a huge passion for it. Ever since I was around 6 years old I knew what I wanted to do.

As I’m watching my entertainment news show I thought I can do this. I can get interviews with the celebrities. I wrote almost a thousand letters to every celeb I could think of. For months I did research for addresses, whatever I could find.

I wrote a letter to Doris Roberts. I never thought anyone would answer my letters that I sent. One day my phone rings and it’s Jay Leno. I couldn’t believe it. He said yes to an interview with me. Then, a week later or I get an email from Doris Roberts saying she got my letter and would love to let me interview her. I wanted to cry. I couldn’t believe this was happening.

I scheduled an interview with her and was pretty nervous. I couldn’t find her house so I called what I thought was her assistant’s number but it was Doris. She didn’t sound too happy, so that made me even more scared. Once I got in the door and we sat down we just hit it off. She had a similar upbringing and we talked about our love for the arts. She hugged me multiple times,I thought it was a dream.

After the interview, she took me downstairs to see all of her awards. There were so many awards. It was so shocking to see in person. She told me she still studied acting. She goes to class and still wants to learn. It was definitely something I took with me.

With one person saying yes, it gave me such confidence. I knew in my gut this is what I am supposed to do. Doris told me that when I got a talk show she would be there. She emailed me for my college graduation and told me she was proud and loved the interview.

Doris, I will always remember you and what you did for me.
