Richard Hatch, the actor/producer/director, better known to many geeks as “Captain Apollo” from the original “Battlestar Galactica” series (1978), has passed away at the age of 71. He is survived by his son, Paul.

Not for nothing, but prior to gaining stardom on Battlestar Galactica, he also had a reoccurring role on the soap opera “All my Children.” Additionally, he had another breakout part in the TV series “The Streets of San Francisco.” Fast forward to the years after his career kicked into full swing, and he made appearances on series such as “Hawaii Five-O”, “Baywatch” and the part of “Zarek”, in the rebooted Battlestar Galactica series from 2003.

Acting aside, he was also a published author, writing novels based on the Battlestar Galactica TV series from the 70s. For a time period, it was also his hope to get a revival of the show that would be based in the older universe it was set in versus the rebooted version– Regardless of that not coming to pass, he’d always spent time at Sci-fi conventions embracing his fans, along with reflecting on his career.

Nevertheless, now may be a good time for Netflix or Amazon Prime to add the original Battlestar Galactica series back!! Nuff said.
