Star Trek Beyond: Blu-ray Retailer Exclusive Details

‘Star Trek Beyond’ will be released on Blu-ray/DVD on November 1st. However, keep in mind that there’s several iterations of the 3rd flick in the rebooted Trek series that will be available on home-disc format.

More specifically, Wal-Mart, Amazon.com, Best Buy and Target all have their own unique versions of this release to try and entice collectors, and die-hard fans alike to pony up depending on which edition they want. Below you’ll find a broken down list of each retailer’s release specs for Star Trek Beyond:

Wal-Mart’s release will include (shown above) 3 collectible ships from the film:  USS Enterprise, USS Franklin and a Swarm ship. Additionally it will have an extra hour of bonus content on the Blu-ray disc. This set also contains a DVD copy and Digital HD copy of the movie.

Target’s release will include these snazzy looking collectible cards, but more importantly it’ll have an extra disc with 90 minutes of bonus behind the scenes content–45 of which you will not be able to get from any of the other retailer releases. For my money, this is probably the version I’d want due to the exponential amount of behind the scenes extras included here.

Best Buy’s release is a nifty looking steelbook edition that has artwork from a limited edition movie poster for the film. Aside from that it has the standard hour of bonus content all the other retailer releases have, along with the copies of the film on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. So really you’re only buying this version if you’re truly in love with the look of the front cover!! Otherwise this is the most underwhelming set of the film to own.

Amazon.com’s set not only includes the 4k Blu-ray version of the film, but also has the 3D Blu-ray edition along with the standard Blu-ray (non 3D), DVD and Digital HD version of the film. If that’s not enough, you get this pretty kick ass replica of the USS Franklin (shown above) that has its own stand as well. Not too shabby to say the least. However, if you’re not interested in the 4k edition or the 3D version of the movie, then you’d probably be better off going with the Wal-Mart release that also has collectible ships, along with the standard release of the film.

Last but not least, and although not a retailer exclusive, it’s worth mentioning the ‘Star Trek Trilogy 3-Movie Collection’ will also be available at all stores for those wishing to own all three of the newer films of the JJ Abrams franchise. This set will also give the user access to the Digital HD versions of the film– although who the hell really uses that?? In the end this is a nice alternative for anyone wishing to avoid the pricier retail exclusive versions.
