Statement from #Lucasfilm on CGI Leia for future Star Wars Films…

Perhaps I’m in the minority, but I was none too impressed with the CGI recreation of Carrie Fisher’s 1977 self for ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’. It was disturbing as it was silly. So with that in mind, I’m pleased to hear Disney’s (Lucasfilm) current stance on using her CGI double for future films:

“We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.

Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars.”

Well there you have it. For now it sounds like they will refrain from going down that road anytime soon, and I personally believe it’s for the best. Some folks out there believe it would be a slap in the face to not include her in future films, but that’s simply poppycock in my estimation– Let the natural memories of her legacy remain intact versus a highly unnatural looking doppelgänger, i.e. impostor! Nuff said.
