Disney‘s latest film Tomorrowland totally bombed at the box office this holiday weekend, bringing in only a mere $59million.

Adding to it the $26.7million overseas total, the film grossed a total of $58.859million globally.

Costing at least $280 million to make and market, the film made 20% less than expected. So far, the film has taken in about $26.7 million from release in 56 percent of the international marketplace, Disney said. Big markets like Japan, China and Brazil are still to come.

There is no question that Tomorrowland is a major disappointment. Disney‘s other live-action films Maleficent and Cinderella were big hits at the box office.

“It is what it is, but we’re not too disappointed just yet,” Disney’s Executive Vice President for theatrical distribution, Dave Hollis, said. “In a summer of sequels, we hold out a lot of hope that wildly underserved families will find ‘Tomorrowland’ and enjoy its originality.”

The good news:  Walt Disney Studios has a cushion from its Marvel and Pixar films. The Avengers: Age of Ultron has taken in $1.3 billion worldwide &  Pixar’s Inside Out is expected to be a blockbuster.
