Miz Hollywood Chats with My Big Fat Greek Wedding Star Nia Vardalos #NiaVardalos

Nia

My Big Fat Greek Wedding came out in 2002, can you believe it? I remember my dad saying, “You have to go see this movie! It was so funny.” He told everyone he knew about it. This little independent movie went on to be a huge blockbuster. It is now the highest-grossing romantic comedy of all time, and grossed $241.4 million in North America, despite never reaching number one at the box office during its release (the highest-grossing film to accomplish this feat).

Nia Vardalos wrote and starred in the movie. I remember watching and thinking how great it was to see a woman take everything in to her own hands and make it happen. She wrote a play and Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks came to see it. From there, well, you know the rest. It was definitely inspiring to see.

When I heard My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 was finally coming I had to take a chance and try and interview her. I loved the movie but also loved Connie and Carla that she did with Toni Collette. If you haven’t seen it you must see it! I follow Nia on Twitter and thought Ok take a chance and send her a tweet. To my surprise she answered and said let’s do an interview. For this to happen was crazy. She said she liked how I created my own job for myself and how MizHollywood.com is positive and entertaining. I was screaming inside!

I really hope you all enjoy the interview. To be able to interview celebrities I admire means so much. I have wanted to do this since I was 6. Here’s to many more.

Thank you so much to Nia and The Great Greek for letting us film there.

Go get her book Instant Mom as well! The book includes laugh-out-loud behind the scenes Hollywood anecdotes, plus an Appendix on how to adopt worldwide. Vardalos will donate proceeds from the book sales to charities.
