Mathew McConaughey has had a stellar year with his cameo in Wolf of Wall Street, his HBO drama True Detective with Woody Harrelson is one of HBO’s highest rated dramas, and his role as a cowboy with AIDS in Dallas Buyers Club has landed him his first Oscar nomination. Mathew lost over 50 pounds for the part.
From the time Mathew burst onto the scene in 1993 with a part in Dazed and Confused he has captivated the movie-going public’s eye, not only for his steamy good looks, but his charm and willingness to take chances. Dallas Buyers Club is one of those chances that is paying off big time. Mathew has already won the Golden Globe for Best Actor and the SAG Award for Best Actor. This coming Sunday will reveal if he adds the Oscar to that list.
Mathew has worked steadily in film and theater since he began his career. From 2000-2010 he was king of the rom-com’s starring in The Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez, How to Lose A Guy in Ten Days with Kate Hudson, Failure to Launch with Sarah Jessica Parker and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with Jennifer Garner. Jennifer Garner stars with him again in Dallas Buyers Club along with Jared Leto who won Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe for his role as a transvestite dying of AIDS.
Last year Mathew impressed movie-goers with his sexy role in the male stripper movie, Magic Mike and then as a homeless man in Mud.
Married to model/actress and Brazilian beauty Camila Alves, they have three children. Mathew founded the “Just Keep Livin’ foundation to help teenage kids find direction and a future.
The Oscar ceremony is this coming Sunday, March 2 at 8PM, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, live on ABC.
