Oscar Nom’s ‘Manchester By The Sea’, ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ and ‘Nocturnal Animals’ On DVD February 21.

Kenneth Lonergan wrote and directed this heart-breaking tale, nominated for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, along with garnering a Best Actor nod for Casey Affleck (already winner of the Golden Glove in this category), and Supporting Actor nods for Michelle Williams and Lucas Hedges. A simple concept of a bitter, cranky solitary man who must step in as guardian of his brother’s son after he dies from a sudden heart attack, bringing him back to the town where he grew up, leaving a tragic memory behind him. Hacksaw Ridge. DVD. Blue-Ray. IMDB pro-rating 8.3 with 86% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. The true story is directed by Mel Gibson, nominated for an Oscar as Best Director. With a 40 million dollar budget, Hacksaw Ridge has already earned 160 million, a 120 million ‘all is forgiven’ for Mel. Hacksaw Ridge is also nominated for Best Picture. The screenplay was written by Robert Schenkkan and Andrew Knight. Andrew Garfield is up for Best Actor for his role as a conscientious objector during the Battle of Okinawa, a medic who saved hundreds of lives, but never fired a shot. He won the Medal of Freedom. Other Oscar nods are for Film Editing and Mixing as well as Sound mixing. Vince Vaughn, Teresa Palmer, Luke Bracey and Sam Worthington, also star.

Nocturnal Animals. DVD. Blue-Ray. IMDB pro-rating 7.6 with 73% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. Multi-talented Fashion designer Tom Ford directed and wrote the script, adapted from the novel by Austin Wright. It was a winner at Venice Film Festival for Best Picture as well as multiple nods at the Golden Globes for Best Picture and Screenplay. Aaron Taylor-Johnson won a Golden Globe for Supporting actor, while Michael Shannon is nominated for the Oscar in the same category. A ‘high-fashion’ romantic thriller about a female gallery owner whose husband is a writer, his latest novel holds a  deadly and haunting message for her. Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
