Rockwell: A League of Their Own Musical Parody (Review)

I have always wanted to go to dinner theatre. It just seemed like such a cool, different experience. Plus, I was obsessed with the movie “Connie and Carla.” If you haven’t seen it and you love musicals I promise you will love it.

I heard about the Rockwell but in the 15 years I have lived in LA I have never gone. I reached out to see about covering the show and was given tickets. First, I was excited because I love a good musical and one of my favorite movies is “A League of their Own.” This was not some cheesy local show. I was absolutely blown away by everyone and their voices. I have always said I think the best actors are Broadway peeps because you have to sing, dance and act.

The show was a much shortened version of the movie with musical that everyone will know and can sing along with. The show has a modern fem-pro twist. The show has an impressive roster of talent including Emma Hunton who directs the show. You may know her from FreeForms “Good Trouble.”

There was not a moment I wasn’t completely engaged in the show. I was so impressed with the talent. Some of them playing multiple characters running around the stage to change quickly. The cast also interacted with the audience.

I have nothing but amazing things to say about the show and the cast. Everyone’s voices were beyond amazing. I loved the little jokes that were thrown in about Madonna and Rosie (who are my faves). I wanted to watch it again right after for the things I may have missed and I just loved all the songs.

Some of the songs sung in the show: Another One Bites the Dust, Living on a Prayer, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Man I Feel Like a Woman, Like a Prayer.”

If you are in Los Angeles or coming for a visit I can’t recommend the Rockwell enough. This show was perfection but I also think any show they do is probably like this. I can’t wait for the next show.

Running every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 8pm and Sundays at noon through September 1.
