The filmmakers insist that hunger is a problem that is solvable and can be fixed. “Scarcity is not the issue”, states Kristi Jacobson, “lack of quality food is”. When food stamps allow for just $3.00 per day, children are unable to eat anything but cheap processed foods with no nutritional value. Good food isn’t cheap – or even accessible.
“Developmentally disabled children are on the rise in America due to improper nutrition”, say BRIDGES. “This is our future, what could be more patriotic than caring for our nations children?”
An important and poignant film, appropriately timed with the recent sequester cuts to social programs. This crisis affects 1 in 4 children and 50 million families, but a problem for one, is a problem for all.
