‘Anchorman 2’ and ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ Head Miz Hollywood’s Weekend Round-Up For Dec. 20

ANCHOIR 2

With the holidays being flooded with films vying for ticket sales and Oscar nominations, Ron Burgundy and Anchorman 2 got a jump start on it’s competition by pushing it’s opening day forward to Dec. 18. That leaves Saving Mister Banks and Walking With Dinosaurs opening today, Dec. 20.

Will Ferrell returns to his San Diego news desk in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. It’s the dawning of the 80’s and ego-drenched Ron Burgundy is washed up – until he is offered the 2 AM time-slot for a new concept, 24 hour news! Ron regroups his old team, his weirdo weatherman (Steve Carell) his roving reporter (Paul Rudd) and his big-mouthed sports expert (David Koecher) and his wife and co-anchor Christina Applegate. Hotly anticipated, this sequel is getting positive buzz and box office in its first two days.

BANKS

Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks is opening in time to be considered for Oscar nominations. Already garnering SAG and Golden Globe nominations for Emma Thompson for Best Actress, Disney is hoping that audience support will push it over the line for a Best Picture nod from the Academy, as well as nominations for Tom Hanks (playing Walt Disney) and Colin Farrell (playing Mr. Banks). The story revolves around Disney’s promise to his children to make the beloved story of P.L. Travers’ (played by Emma Thompson) Mary Poppins into a movie. It ended up taking over 20 years, while Walt had to deal with a reluctant P.L. Travers, as Mary Poppins is the story of her childhood and Mr. Banks is her father. The film has gotten B+ reviews from critics and it’s a good choice for the whole family.

Dinosaurs

Walking With Dinosaurs debuts in both 3-D and flat screen. Alaska is the backdrop for this pre-historic glimpse into the world of dinosaurs, originally inspired from  BBC scientific series. It follows the popular  live arena show of the same name where giant life-sized robotic puppets are used.
