Andy Griffith Show Costar, George Lindsey dies at 83.

Actor, George Lindsey who was best known for his role of Goober Pyle on CBS’s The Andy Griffith Show, died Sunday morning in Nashville reported The Tennessean.

After a family announcement of Lindsey’s death, Andy Griffith, 85, stated,

“George Lindsey was my friend. I had great respect for his talent and his human spirit.”

Griffith also spoke to his long time friend on the phone before he passed,

“Our last conversation was a few days ago. We would talk about our health, how much we missed our friends who passed before us and usually about something funny. I am happy to say that as we found ourselves in our 80s, we were not afraid to say, ‘I love you.’ That was the last thing George and I had to say to each other. ‘I love you.’ ”

Lindsey was raised by his grandparents and began his interest in acting after he saw a performance of the musical Oklahoma!. He was also a school athlete and went to college to become a teacher, according to the Tennessean.

Before his long time career in television, Lindsey studied acting in New York, where he played in many stage productions.

George Lindsey was a talented actor who brought many laughs to those around him. He will be missed. Rest in peace, Mr. Lindsey.
