Escape at Dannemora. True Crime drama (7 episodes) IMD pro-rating 8.1. with a 93% score from Rotten Tomatoes. Benicio Del Toro is riveting, Paul Dano in his best performance, but Patricia Arquette sells it as a chilling, and totally believable ‘Tilly’. Tilly is a bored, lonely, married to a prison guard, sewing manufacturing shop leader, at Gannemora Prison (Real Life Clinton Correctional Facility). She’s not a bad person, she’s just sympathetic to the harsh life she shares 8 hours a day with convicted murderers, where reality drifts into fantasy, providing her with romantic and sexual excitement. Cunning Benecio Del Toro has her number, but Paul Dano, after he is busted for being Tilly’s boy-toy, wants nothing to do with her. Nothing that is, until Benecio, who basically is THE MAN who runs the prison, devises a scheme to break loose. Dano is back in, and not sorry. Both of these men have nothing to lose. The tragedy is Tilly, who is a moth to the flame.
The production is first-class, and Ben Stiller reaches his goal in this ‘shoot for the stars’ production. Oh yeah! Happy for you.
