How did you get involved in show business?

Carole Kirschner. I began my career as a comedian. I was born and raised in Los Angeles. Through networking and making contacts in the industry, I evolved into a senior level development executive, and I was head of Steven Spielberg’s first Amblin Television.

What is the WGA Showrunner Training Program?

Carole Kirschner. It’s a very selective program, where established TV writers are trained to be the operational managers that develop the storylines, hire the crew, cast actors, are in charge of the script. They are responsible for all creative aspects of a series, and are usually the creator, or co-creator of the show. The Writers Guild of America,  puts out the call for submissions in the summer.  With over 500 scripted TV series on networks, cable, streaming and digital outlets, qualified showrunners are essential.

What is the CBS Diversity Mentoring Program?

Carole Kirschner. It is a program I started with CBS sixteen years ago, to train people of color and diverse backgrounds to write for TV. It has become very successful.

Tell us a little about your book Hollywood Game Plan, Landing a Job in Film or TV.

How to take meetings, be ‘good in a room’,  developing your own voice and building confidence.
