Jeff Daniels (Dumb and Dumber, Looper), stars as Will McAvoy, a Network News anchor and a moderate Republican who doesn’t like making waves. It’s easy to see he is loving his job, ( I mean Jeff, not so much Will). Will’s ex-lady love MacKenzie McCale, played by Emily Mortimer (Hugo, Shutter Island), is hired as the new executive producer. She’s idealistic, hardened by combat experience, and a Tsunami at high tide. Sam Waterson (Law & Order) is their boss. He lives by the motto: “It’s not enough to be right, everyone else must be wrong”.
Will, Mackenzie, and the rest of the Newsroom staff are high-minded journalists pursuing accuracy and excellence. It’s a screwball comedy focusing on real life events starting from 2010. Throw in Jane Fonda as the tough as nails owner of not only the Network, but also a Gossip newspaper and things get heated up pretty fast.
Olivia Munn (Magic Mike, Iron Man 2), gets an opportunity to use her acting chops, as does Thomas Sadowski (Loser, 30 Beats), Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), John Gallagher Jr. (Pieces Of April),and Alison Pill ( In Treatment).
