I attended Joffrey West on over the weekend. It was an event put on by the Joffrey Ballet School. It is a program for kids from the ages of 12-25 with previous dance experience. The students get to work with prestigious faculty including So You Think You Can Dance choreographers Mandy Moore and Mia Michaels. This was a short 4 week summer intensive program.
The event was a graduation for the kids being able to perform on a big stage in front of friends, family, their teachers and celebrities. There was also a art auction by the artist Domingo Zapata. The funds raised would help dancers who can’t afford to go to the school.
The students did a great job. The dancers were wonderful to watch. It was amazing to see some of the talent that was there. I had the chance to interview Dante 7, a choreographer for Joffrey West. He said, “He found some amazing un-tapped talent . He found talent they thought they didn’t event have.”
At the event I saw newly engaged Sofia Vergara, Mia Michaels, Dante 7, Actress Kasia Wolejnio, Actor Marlon Young and artist Domingo Zapata.
I met some amazing people. Unfortunately, I was not able to interview everyone I wanted to. All in all it was a good night.
