‘ DEADLY INFLUENCER’ Premieres Friday, August 9 at 8PM ET/PT on LMN.

‘Deadly Influencer’, stars Anne Dudek, Morgan Taylor Campbell and Abby Ross.

A young woman commits murder to keep her classmates’ social media careers under her thumb. After killing a popular friend, she turns her sights on a new girl, but the girl’s mother suspects the truth and will fight to protect her daughter. Directed by  Curtis Crawford.

It was a treat to interview the two young stars of ‘Deadly Influender’, Morgan Taylor Campbell and Abby Ross. Both Morgan and Abby developed their love of theater and performing with early training at The Railtown Actors Studio in Vancouver, British Colombia.

Morgan Taylor Campbell plays the incredibly ambitious and ruthless sociopath, Skylar Madison.

What is it like playing such a dark character?

Morgan Taylor Campbell. I did a lot of research on Sociopaths. It is a condition that is generally developed through some kind of trauma. About 4% of the population suffers from the condition, often characterized by extreme self-centered behavior. Knowing that helped me feel sympathetic toward my character. The role offered plenty of opportunities to dive deep into my imagination. I loved playing such a challenging role, but couldn’t wait to get back to nature and decompress!

Your bio mentioned you studied at the renowned William Esper Studio in NYC.

Morgan Taylor Campbell. Yes, being in New York immerses you in the rich traditions and the history of theater. It is very intense. The training at William Esper focuses on emotional preparation and being spontaneous, an extension of William Esper having studied with Stella Adler.

What was it like working with Director Curtis Crawford?

Morgan Taylor Campbell. Curtis was wonderful to work with. Despite the serious tone of the movie, Curtis created an atmosphere of fun and light-heartedness, as well as a healthy family-feeling atmosphere. It was so much fun to work with Abby. We would rehearse together and read lines at night and in our spare time.

What can you share about what you are working on now? What’s in the future for Morgan?

Morgan Taylor Campbell. I am so excited. I got to work with Peter Sarsgaard, on the new 10 episode series ‘Interrogation’. My scenes with Peter were incredible, and to be able to work with an industry professional of his character was thrilling. It is a true story that takes place over 26 years about a man accused of killing his mother. He studies to become a lawyer in prison and after his release he is able to exonerate himself. It’s totally binge-worthy!

Abby Ross, well known from her role on ABC’s ‘Once Upon A Time’ plays Jessica Lake,  Skylar Madison’s intended next victim, except she’s not as naive as she looks, and her Mom, played by Anne Dudek, isn’t naive at all!

What attracted you to the role of Jessica Lake?

Abby Ross. I liked that she was approachable,  well-rounded with real human qualities. She has flaws and makes mistakes, but she has a good heart. I connected with her as soon as I auditioned. She’s trusting, but she follows her inner wisdom, not being afraid to question and investigate.

What was the audition like?

Abby Ross. Well, in the movie, Jessica is a Blogger. She makes Blog and web-cam posts. I just went for it, and did a live, direct to the camera Blog. I loved it and fell right into the moment. I enjoy extreme, but relatable characters.

Have you ever done a comedy performance?

Abby Ross. Yes! I was in SEED. It was a Canadian Comedy Sitcom. I loved being part of the ensemble. I don’t want to say my character, Anastasia was a ‘dumb’ but she did have a sort of naive Marilyn Monroe flavor. She was rebellious and silly, with talents but not book smart. “I made you this cake that I bought”.

Who in the industry would you most like the experience of working with?

Abby Ross. I admire the work of Leonardo DiCaprio. For me, he is the most talented actor today. I listen to a lot of podcasts. I recently listened to an interview with him and I felt he was totally relatable. I think I could work with him without being intimidated. For a female actress, I have many, but my first choice is Amy Adams. I just finished watching Sharp Objects on HBO. I was deeply inspired by her performance.

‘Deadly Influencer’ premieres this Friday night, August 9, at 8PM ET/PT on LMN.  Can’t wait!
