‘Diary of a Lunatic’ Returns as a Series. Shooting Starts June 24.

Limited TV Series Is A Follow Up To the Successful Cult Feature Classic – Diary Of A Lunatic…Trew’s Calling

Principal photography begins on June 24, 2019, for the limited TV series Diary of a Lunatic, created by Maha Guemei (“The Dreamfactory,” “Kitchen Sink Drama,”) and Greg Robbins (“Superheroes Don’t’ Need Capes,” “Blink of an Eye,”). The series is a follow up to the successful feature film, Diary of a LunaticTrew’s Calling, that premiered in 2017.

This original series reunites the feature film original cast Tracey B. Wilson (“Guiding Light,” “All My Children,”) Kevin Sizemore (“Fear of the Walking Dead,” “Resurrection,” “Under the Dome,”) and introduces newcomer Melody Nardone (“Anathema,”). The series co-stars Muse Watson (NCIS, The Avengers,) Yancy Butler (“As The World Turns,” “Brooklyn South,” “Witchblade,”) Cynthia Rothrock (“Cool Cat Kids Superhero,” “Fury of the Fist and the Golden Fleece,” “Death Fighter,”) and Eddie Mekka (“Laverne & Shirley,”).

Six half-hour episodes will be shot on location in Buffalo New York.  Every human being has alter egos that live in parallel worlds. The boundaries between these parallel universes have become fragile planets that are collapsing and disappearing and alter egos are slipping through the crumbling universes and attaching to the wrong people. This causes crazy comedy, chaos and calamity.

“The feature film Diary of a Lunatic…Trew’s Calling became such a cult fan favorite that we assembled most of the same cast and crew to give audiences what they wanted, more Awesomeness’s” said writer and filmmaker Greg Robbins. “We’ve got a great story we can’t wait to tell.”

It was great to have a chance to speak with Producer/Writer/Director, Greg Robbins about the upcoming production.

Why did you choose Buffalo, N.Y. to shoot the series?

Greg Robbins. My family moved here to shoot the original film and we loved it, so we stayed. The tax incentives were a big part of the original incentive.

It seems the original may have been slightly before it’s time, this being an outrageously funny, upbeat, anything goes comedy, that everybody can use right now.

Greg Robbins. It’s definitely got good vibes. It’s kind of a “Once upon a time” – wisdom, love, kindness, and compassion had a mission that they were determined to fulfill, no matter what. It’s an action, comedy, suspense, drama!

You were fortunate to be able to get most of the original cast to participate.

Greg Robbins.  Yes, we were a great team. We had bonded on the film, and the scene partners enjoyed the freedom only complete trust can offer.

Did you have to rent a studio? How are the sets constructed?

Greg Robbins. We were lucky to be able to rent three apartments in an old apartment building. It’s perfect.

Kimber Eastwood (“Aliens vs. Vampires,” “The Dreamfactory,” ) Shauna Robbins (Pastor Greg’s Reboot-Hope for Christmas,” “Through a Mother’s  Eyes,” ) Michael Espinoza (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “30 Rock,”) and Shawn Midkiff  (“The Dream Factory,) are producers.
