Speaking with Kristen Moss, one of the creators and the Vice President of Production for the RTV Awards.
How did you get started in Reality TV?
Kristen Moss. I’m a New Jersey girl, so when I saw an advertisement on Craig’s List for someone to recruit for casting and hospitality for Reality-TV I thought, “I would love to do that, travel around the country and interview people who like to have fun and aren’t afraid to be themselves.” reality TV changed my life! There is never a dull moment.
Who do you work with?
Kristen Moss. Besides organizing and producing the Reality Tv Awards, I also work in reality TV. I have wonderful supportive partners, Andrew Ward, and John Barra who is responsible for social media outreach and talent/entertainment handling for our Annual Reality Television Awards. I cast MasterChef seasons seven and eight, MasterChef Junior season five, and supervised casting for The Great Christmas Light Fight, while Andrew started as a contestant on I Survived a Japanese Game Show‘s first season, and has since worked in different aspects of production on shows such as MasterChef, America’s Got Talent, and Celebrity Apprentice.
Why did you start the Reality TV Awards?
Kristen Moss. It was a seed idea to fully showcase all the marvelous talent that Reality TV represents. Andrew Ward, John Barra, and I really care about the Awards and the Reality TV Industry. TV audiences are so culturally diversified now and Reality TV has something for everyone. I met a man when I was in the Mid-West interviewing for a show, who said he never watched Reality TV. That it wasn’t for him. When I asked him what his favorite TV show was, he answered “Deadliest Catch!”. When I explained that it was a reality show he was shocked and answered, “Well, I guess I’m your biggest fan!”
