The Groundlings Theatre is a breading ground for amazing talent. If you haven’t heard of them…well, you’ve been under a rock. Some of the most amazing talent has come from The Groundlings. Some people that have come from the company are: Jennifer Coolidge, Will Ferrell, Ana Gasteyer, Kathy Griffin, Cheryl Hines, Chris Kattan, Lisa Kudrow, Jon Lovitz, Melissa McCarthy, Michael McDonald, Jim Rash, Paul Reubens, Maya Rudolph, Mindy Sterling and Kristen Wiig, among others. I grew up in awe of these people. To have the improvisational skills is really unique.
After proudly marking its 40th anniversary last May, The Groundlings Theatre is excited to continue the celebration of its rich history with a special one night only fundraising event – The Groundlings Decades Night Fundraiser. Dozens of alumni will return to The Groundlings stage on July 20th to help raise funds for the remodeling of the new Groundlings School adjacent to the theatre (7280 Melrose Avenue).
Please join us in celebrating both our past and our future. Alumni from the 1970s (including Laraine Newman and Cassandra Peterson) will take the stage for one hour improv shows at 7:00 p.m., followed by the 1980s at 8:30 p.m., 1990s at 9:45 p.m. and concluding with a show that spans 2000 to the present featuring Jim Rash and many, many more.
In January 2016, The Groundlings will unveil the 5000-square foot property that will house the new Groundlings School. The future comedians of Los Angeles will study improv and sketch in a state-of-the-art facility where meticulous design and functionality meets impeccable training.
Tickets will go on sale June 19th. The performance schedule is 7:00 p.m., 8:30 p.m., 9:45 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Tickets range from one show and one drink at $20 to a VIP Pass for all four shows and open bar for $100 and are available at the box office or via phone at (323) 934-4747.
