ZONE 414. Starring Guy Pearce, Matilda Lutz and Travis Fimmel in the Sci-Fi thriller set in Zone 414, a dangerous, dark colony of humanoids known as “the city of robots.” The colony’s creator (Fimmel) hires private investigator David Carmichael (Pearce) to track down his missing daughter. David teams up with Jane (Lutz), a highly advanced A.I. equipped with the same technology of her fellow humanoids, but with all the emotions, feelings and dreams of a human being. They travel through the city uncovering clues and a crime that calls into question the origins and true purpose behind the city of artificial humans.

Thrilled to have an interview with Director Andrew Baird and to have the opportunity to express how much I enjoyed ZONE 414.

How did you become attached to Zone 414 as the Director?

Andrew Baird: ICM Partners sent me Bryan Edward Hill’s script at the suggestion of Mark Huffam, the Producer of ‘The Martian’. I had done a video for Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, aka “The Weeknd” “KISSLAND” which sparked enthusiasm for my directing style.

ZONE 414 really pulls the viewer in with the force of the visuals, quick cuts, drone shots, and vibrant colors. The effects seem to create a unique reality.

Andrew Baird: Yes, we wanted to bring the viewer into another world entirely. We wanted an extraordinary world, both recognizable and unfamiliar simultaneously. It really was a team effort, and the work of our skilled Cinematographer James Mather made all the difference. We also got to work on the old set of ‘GAME OF THRONES’, in Belfast, so that offered opportunities for superior control of the look of the film. I had never been to Belfast before so it was exciting in that aspect as well.

Guy Pearce brings his ‘Memento’ fierceness and intensity to the role of Private Investigator, David Carmichael. How did Guy become involved with the project?

Andrew Baird: Again, that would be thanks to Executive Producer Mark Huffam who got the script to Guy and that was that. We went back and forth a bit between Guy and Travis Fimmel as to who would portray the Protagonist and who would portray the Antagonist, but everyone settled into the roles they felt inspired and challenged by.

How did Screenwriter Bryan Edward Hill feel about the outcome of his story?

Andrew Baird: This was Bryan’s first script to be produced so he was enthusiastic about the entire process and of course to see his words make it to the big screen. You can’t make a great film without a great script.

What’s next on the agenda for Andrew Baird?

Andrew Baird. Martin Brennan, one of the Producers for Zone 414 has kept the momentum going with the Action Thriller ONE WAY starring Kevin Bacon, Colson Baker, Travis Fimmel, Drea de Matteo and Machine Gun Kelly. In One Way, Freddy (Baker) goes on the run with a bag full of cash after a robbery of his former crime boss goes wrong. With a potentially fatal wound, he slips onto a bus headed into the unrelenting California desert. After a call for help, Freddy’s estranged father (Bacon) betrays him, notifying the crime boss where he is. With his life slipping through his fingers, Freddy is left with very few choices to survive.

Thank you Andrew Baird!
