HBO’s “Newsroom”-TV at its Best!

Written By Miz Hollywood

I have been hearing about this new show Newsroom for a while now but wasn’t sure when it aired or where it was on. I was intrigued because in college I studied news and worked in a news room for about 7 years off and on. I could tell you some stories lol! I saw all these postings on Twitter about Newsroom but didn’t see it. It was on HBO! WHY? WHY? A channel I don’t get! I hate that. Someone tweeted HBO put the first episode on YouTube.

Newsroom is written by the great Aaron Sorkin, creator of The West Wing and screenwriter of The Social Network and Moneyball. The show goes inside the nightly news focusing on a network anchor (played by Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), the newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel) and their boss (Sam Waterston). It tracks them trying to tell the news in the face of many obstacles commercial and personal.

I thought it was brilliant. Within the first 10 minutes I was hooked. Jeff Daniels was great! Aaron Sorkin’s writing is always top notch and here he is definitely pushing boundaries. He is showing that real journalism is gone. News isn’t what it used to be. Instead of telling the news like it really is news are run by networks which are run by advertising and money. There are many stories journalists just can’t talk about or the full story. Jeff Daniels in the first episode goes back to the old ways and says no and with his new team tells it like it is and asks the real questions.

Preview for next week’s show

I hope the show gets picked up and the story can continue to be told. The reviews have been mixed and the ratings not so great. After I watched the episode on YouTube the comments have been growing like crazy. Here are some of the comments that have been posted about the show.

I really do not understand the bad reviews for this show now that I have seen? it for myself. Thought provoking, passionate and GREAT casting.-theboojee

Best writing out there right now, and with? a clear and singular message we should all listen to right now: WE CAN ALL DO BETTER. LET’S TRY.-fahnke

I wish they would put every episode online for those of us who can’t afford HBO. If you can watch it do so! Great cast, great writing. It’s nice to have something original on TV. To any of the cast or Aaron Sorkin I would love to have you on MizHollywood.com! Hope you have a great season of pushing people to think!
