The wildly popular and heartwarming sitcom is coming to a close . . . or is it ? Executive Producers Craig Thomas and Carter Bays are currently writing the upcoming eighth season to be the last but they are leaving story tangents available in case CBS green lights a ninth season. The two EP’s are currently in negotiations with CBS talking about whether or not fans will be watching the conclusion this season or just another exciting build up to who Ted Mosby’s future wife is. Both Thomas and Bays told Entertainment Weekly,
“We’re optimistic and hopeful that we’re going to know in time so we can either launch the ending sequence of How I Met Your Mother or figure out a plan B, which we also know how to do. The truth is, I think we’d love to keep going. We think there’s a great season 9, and we’re excited and hopeful to hear how all the negotiations go.”
