Over the weekend I was invited to see R&B artist H.E.R. for the “Wanted” concert series. I hadn’t heard of this artist before but a friend of mine had so I brought her along. I really didn’t know what to expect. We were greeted by a rep (Johnny) from the PR company that invited us and given press passes. We were on the floor standing listening to the opening acts and live music. We left to get a drink and when we returned to the stage floor we were told we didn’t have the right wristbands. Really? We were just there. We were still on the floor just further back which is hard for people that are 5 ft tall like myself and my friend. I wasn’t able to bring my camera equipment so we couldn’t be up there with the press and see the VIP guests but whatever.

The show was amazing. Gabriella “Gabi” Wilson known as H.E.R. on stage was a mix of Alicia Keys, Sheila E, Prince and Lauren Hill. She played a slew of instruments. During one song would go from the keyboard to guitar and on to the next.
In the middle of the show reps from RCA (her record label) came out and presented her with all these record breaking awards (H.E.R.’s records have been streamed over 1 billion times, she just scored her first platinum and gold singles) and announced she received 5 Grammy Nominations just this month. The crowd cheered and chanted with excitement. The thing that I always love is when artists thank their fans because really without them you wouldn’t be where you are.
Every song she sang was so good. She had me sold to go listen to all her albums. I think what’s great is that we have to open ourselves up to new experiences to learn what else is out there.
After the event I found out Queen Latifah and Tisha Campbell-Martin were there. How did I miss this?
Knowing nowthing about H.E.R. before the show I can say she now has a fan. It was a great show. She is an artist not just a singer which is rare. If you get a chance go see H.E.R.
