Walt Disney releases a live action version of the classic animated ‘Cinderella’ starring Cate Blanchett, Lily James, Richard Madden and Helena Bonham-Carter.
Lily James stars as Cinderella (actually Ella but when she is forced to be a maid for her evil stepmother and stepsisters and cleanup the fireplace ‘cinders’ she is nicknamed Cinderella). Ella is a loving girl whose father remarries after the death of Ella’s mother whose dying words are always to be forgiving and kind. He marries her cruel stepmother, perfectly cast as Cate Blanchett. But when Ella’s father suddenly dies, she is left to be the servant of her two stepsisters and her evil stepmother. One day, while in the woods, she meets a handsome stranger and feels she has met a kindred spirit. When announcements come to attend the Palace Ball, Cinderella is excited to attend, hoping she will meet up with the stranger. Her stepmother rips her dress to shreds and dashes all hopes of attending the ball until Helena Bonham-Carter steps in (as her Fairy Godmother) and makes sure she gets there on time, complete with dress and glass slippers. Richard Madden from Game of Thrones is the handsome Prince.
