MacKenzie Lansing Stars With Kate Winslet in HBO’S hit series ‘MARE OF EASTTOWN’

Even the smallest towns have their dark sides.  Mackenzie Lansing, the young French-American actress on everybody’s “Ones to Watch” list, co-stars opposite Kate Winslet in the HBO limited series, “Mare of Easttown.” The series unveiled on Sunday, April 18 and airs every Sunday at 10 pm ET/PT through May 30. Mackenzie plays Brianna, a troubled teenage girl who antagonizes and attacks a teen mother (and her rival) at a party.  Through a series of events, the teen mother is killed the same night, and Brianna is a prime suspect in the murder.

“Mare of Easttown” which also stars Julianne Nicholson and Jean Smart, was written by Brad Ingelsby and is directed by Craig Zobel and Gavin O’Connor.  Kate Winslet stars as Mare Sheehan, a Pennsylvania cop investigating a local murder as her own life falls apart.  “Brianna” is a boisterous and popular 17-year-old with a chip on her shoulder. Her parents run the Delarosso family restaurant. She is always getting into trouble and will take things as far as they need to go to stay at the top.

This is the second original series that Winslet has done with HBO; the first was Mildred Pierce which garnered an Emmy and Golden Globe.

This is also the second series for Lansing on HBO; she played the role of “Jamie” opposite Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Deuce, which also starred James Franco.

Mackenzie Lansing grew up between Kinshasa (Congo) and Villebon-sur-Yvette (a small town outside of Paris, France).  She is a bilingual and began her illustrious career on the Paris stage.  She moved to New York to pursue acting in film and television and has been working since then.

I had the pleasure of speaking with multi-faceted and amazingly talented MacKenzie Lansing about her role in “Mare Of Easttown” and her dreams for the future.

What’s the best part about your role as Brianna in the ‘Mare of Easttown’ series?

Mackenzie Lansing. My character is a villain! Playing the bad girl is always fun and challenging. Brianna is definitely challenging! You have to put thought into what is going on under the surface that made her selfish and mean. Why is Brianna mean? She’s spoiled and pampered and needs to have things her way or beware, there are consequences for crossing her! The character is unique and pushes me out of my comfort zone.

Is there a film you can think of that inspired your desire to act?

Mackenzie Lansing: There are so many, but ‘Girl Interrupted’ comes to mind. A riveting drama with two great actresses. It’s funny, I love drama but I also enjoy making people laugh. I have 3 sisters and I was always the one making jokes and being the clown. I’ve done a little bit of comedy performing. I had a part in Red Oaks that was a comedy-drama.

What women in the industry do you admire or would like to work with?

Mackenzie Lansing: Everyone! Frances McDormand, of course, and Roxann Dawson are the first two that popped into my mind. I did get to work with James Franco and I have to say he was a great director.

What is it like working with the legendary actress Kate Winslet?

MacKenzie Lansing: A dream come true! Most of my scenes are with Kate. She is a warm generous actress. She loves the craft of acting as much as I do! We had a lot of fun together.

I know you are also a writer of stage plays. Do you have any interest in writing for film or TV?

MacKenzie Lansing: Absolutely! I got to see one of the plays I’ve written performed on stage. It was thrilling! I love writing and I feel it helps my performance as and actor. It deepens your understanding of the ever-illusive subtext and nuance! My dream is to write a script that I can perform in. That would be ideal.

Is there anything you would like to tell your fans?

MacKenzie Lansing: I enjoy interacting on Social Media. Currently, people are angry with my character Brianna and are letting me know! It doesn’t bother me, but I’m not revealing any secrets about the killer! Instagram: @mackenzielansing Twitter: @MackLansing

Thank you MacKenzie, I can’t wait to see what’s next for you and ‘Mare of Easttown. Sunday nights at 10pm on HBO!
