Hollywood never ceases to amaze me with its obsession with rebooting and remaking classic 80s films. Well, nonetheless, here comes another remake/reboot flick that’s in the form of Poltergeist.

For fans of the 1982 classic, and that at least have a slight curiosity to where this updated version is headed, here’s the 2nd official trailer of the remake starring Sam Rockwell:

At least this second trailer looks far more promising in terms of scares, jolts, and intense lighting effects than the first trailer did. That being said, I just don’t see this comparing to what made the original such a mind-bending, and fairly terrifying time at the movies back in the summer of 82. If only Jerry Goldsmith was still around to score this one…

Now, for old times sake, let’s take a look at the original trailer for the ORIGINAL Poltergeist and see the contrast in styles:

And there ya have it, the original had Steven Spielberg in his prime producing (and apparently ghost-directing for Tobe Hooper as well), Jerry Goldsmith cranking out an epic score, and more or less a livelier looking family than what’s depicted in the trailer for the new version of this franchise.

In the end, for those of us daring to spend the cash flow to see the re-done Poltergeist, we’ll know how rancid or good it’s going to be compared to the original on May 22nd when it hits screens nationwide. Nuff said.
