ROLLING STONE LAUNCHES ‘SPERRY SESSIONS’

Rolling Stone announces the launch of Sperry Sessions, its first-ever custom performance series featuring some of today’s most buzz-worthy emerging artists. From now through August, Sperry Sessions will feature five stripped down, story-teller-type performances, set in the legendary Rolling Stone in-office studio, where well-known acts—including Mumford & Sons, Ellie Goulding, Snow Patrol and Fitz & the Tantrums —have performed. These sessions will bring Sperry’s new ‘Odysseys Await’ campaign to life in a revamped studio, and give fans an inside look into their favorite bands, exclusively on RollingStone.com.

Driven by the philosophy to treat each day as an odyssey, Sperry’s Odysseys AwaitTM campaign is a global platform which channels the salty spirit and ingenuity of its founder, former Naval officer Paul Sperry; and coincides with the brand’s 80th anniversary. Sperry’s consumer—the “Intrepid”—is a young, passionate individual united by the same adventurous spirit as Paul Sperry. The brand’s reenergized brand platform connects with these modern-day explorers who are fueled by a passion to live a meaningful, fulfilling life, rather than simply living in the moment.

“The goal of this partnership is to engage the authentic, intrepid consumer through a medium that speaks to them through their own passions—in this case music,” said Karen Pitts, VP of Marketing at Sperry. “Music is very personal to the Intrepid so we wanted to give the fans additional “artists sessions” they might not otherwise see or experience, but would certainly appreciate. As part of an elevated music strategy for the Odysseys AwaitTM campaign, Sperry Sessions provides the opportunity to showcase modern, intrepid artists. Rolling Stone, whose legacy of covering talented, emerging artists, is a natural fit for this endeavor.”

From beach-worn, shingled walls to authentic lobster traps, the set—designed by artist, Daniele Frazier—features nautical items and Sperry shoes. The intricate lighting scheme, produced by Rick Siegel and Chris Varga, creates a warm, seaside-like environment which includes brightly-lit buoys, hung throughout the set. This intimate studio evokes the ideal atmosphere for each act to showcase their unfiltered artistry.

New York-based indie-pop band, MisterWives, whose brand new album debuted this week, is the first featured artist in the studio. You can watch their session at http://www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/misterwives-live-performance-sperry-sessions-20150224.
