Rosie O’Donnell got married earlier than expected…surprise!
Both recently suffered health scares, Rosie a heart attack and Michelle was diagnosed with desmoid tumors, a rare disease that effects only three out of every million people.
Rosie announced their engagement in December 2011 and they exchanged vows on June 9 in a private ceremony in New York, O’Donnell’s rep Cindi Berger tells PEOPLE exclusively. “They got married but they haven’t had the wedding celebration.”
They chose a quiet ceremony before Michelle’s first surgery on June 14.
Rosie took to her blog to share the news with her fans.
“We married in private before [Michelle’s] surgery, just the [two] of us,” she wrote. “When we r both well enough will have the wedding of r dreams surrounded by those we cherish.”
“Thankful for the love and support so many have given us during these trying times,” she continues in the post. “Including all of u stranger-friends connected thru invisible strands of wi fi.”
If you have followed Rosie like I have you know she is a fundraising junkie. She and Michelle hope to bring awareness to desmoid tumors by participating in the annual DTRF Running for Answers 5k, in Philadelphia on Oct. 21. Rosie will match all donations made to Michelle’s fundrasing page.
