‘Selma’ Tops DVD’s for May 5

Ava DuVernay directs ‘Selma’, this Martin Luther King true story of the battleground for the Voting Rights Act. David Oyelowo stars in the Oscar nominated film for Best Picture, also starring Oprah Winfrey, Tim Roth and Tom Wilkinson.

The International Movie Data Base (IMDB) is the industry standard for critical and customer satisfaction.

Rptten Tomatoes gives it a 99% customer satisfaction rating.  Although the Civil Rights Act of 1964 legally desegregated the South, discrimination was still rampant in certain areas, making it very difficult for blacks to register to vote. In 1965, an Alabama city became the battleground in the fight for suffrage. Despite violent opposition, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo) and his followers pressed forward on an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, and their efforts culminated in President Lyndon Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Black Sea. DVD. Blue-Ray. IMDB Pro-rating 6.4 with a82% satisfaction on Rotten Tomatoes. Jude Law stars in this action-thriller, as an ex-seaman who is lured back locate a lost Nazi U-2 boat, supposedly filled with stolen gold. He recruits a team of Russian sailors who become increasingly aware that the less of them there are, the more gold to go around.

Miss Julie. DVD. Blue-Ray. IMDB Pro-rating 6.1. Jessica Chastain and Colin Farrell star in this period drama of a bored and frustrated baron’s daughter who courts scandal by seducing her father’s butler.
