Leonardo DiCaprio’s adventure The Revenant, based on a true story, and the psychological thriller The Forest with Natalie Dormer open Friday, Jan.8.
The Revenant. Based on a true story. From director Alejandro Inarritu (Birdman), with Academy Award winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki. While exploring the uncharted wilderness in the 1800s, legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) sustains injuries from a brutal bear attack. When his hunting team leaves him for dead, Glass must utilize his survival skills to dig out of his grave and find a way back home to his family. Grief-stricken and fueled by vengeance, Glass treks through the wintry terrain to track down John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy), the former confidant who betrayed and abandoned him.
The Forest. Horror/Pyschological thriller. Set in the legendary Aokigahara Forest at the foot of Mount Fuji, a real-life place in Japan where people go to end their lives, The Forest tells the story of a young American woman(Natalie Dormer), in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite everyone’s warnings not to “stray from the path,” Sara dares to enter the forest to discover the truth about her sister’s fate, only to be confronted by the angry and tormented souls of the dead who now prey on anyone who crosses their paths. Taylor Kinney(Chicago Fire) and Eoin Macken, also star.
