American Icon Barbra Streisand to receive Film Society’s Chaplin Award.

World class,  multi-talented superstar, Barbra Streisand will receive homage from the American Film Society, April 22, at New York’s Lincoln Center, where she will receive the 40th annual Chaplin Award, presented by President Bill Clinton.

The Film Society’s annual gala began in 1972 and honored Charles Chaplin, who returned to the U.S. from exile to accept the award.

Barbra Streisand’s ground breaking work as an artist and a film director has opened many doors for women in Hollywood. She is the only artist ever to receive 2 Oscars, a Tony, 5 Emmy’s, 10 Grammy’s, The Director’s Guild of America Award for Yentl, 12 Golden Globe Awards, The National Medal of Arts, the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and was the first female director to receive the Kennedy Center Honors.

Tony Bennett, Wynton Marsalis, and  Liza Minnelli will perform at this evenings gala event.

Other recipients of the Chaplin Award have been, Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Bette Davis, Frederico Fellini, Elizabeth Taylor and Martin Scorcese.
