“Napoleon Dynamite” and Fox Searchlight take to the Courts

In 2004 people everywhere contributed to the success of the tater-tot loving nerd, Napoleon Dynamite. The film that was a smash hit at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival was so beloved a bidding war for its rights got underway. The victor, Fox Searchlight and the contract they originally signed is now in dispute.

On August 30 the lawsuit was filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court by Napoleon Pictures. The dispute according to The Hollywood Reporter is that the producers are not meeting the originally agreed upon royalties payments. They are also alleging breach of contract.
