WOW–That’s really all I can conjure up for my knee-jerk reaction to the news that Anton Yelchin, better known for his roles in the rebooted Star Trek films, as well as others like ‘Charlie Bartlett’, ‘Terminator Salvation’, ‘Fright Night’, and ‘Rudderless’, is dead at the young age of 27.

He was an only child, born in Russia, and his parents were actually professional figure skaters before moving to the United States.

As far as the details of what caused Mr. Yelchin’s death, this is the latest, courtesy of the LAPD:

Via Deadline: “A fatal traffic collision happened in Studio City. On Sunday, June 19 at 1:10 in the morning, a fatal traffic collision occurred. It was the result of the victim’s own car rolling backwards down his steep driveway, pinning him against a brick mailbox pillar and security fence. … The victim was on his way to meet his friends for rehearsal. And when he didn’t show up, his friends went to his house, where they found him deceased by his car. It appeared he had momentarily exited his car leaving it in the driveway.”

Sad, sad news, regardless of what triggered such a freak accident– Our condolences go out to his family and friends. His talents and spirit will indeed be missed!
