9/11 Never Forget-My Memory

My heart goes out to everyone effected by 9/11. It has now been 11 years and I can still remember it like it was yesterday. I just started college and heard a scream from the other room to turn the TV on. I did and what I saw dropped me to my knees. What was going on? Was this here? I couldn’t speak just tears dropped down my face. My dad was getting on a plane that morning and my heart sank. I called my dad no answer. I kept calling. The phone lines were tied up all around the country with people trying to call their loved ones.

I continued to watch TV and forgot I even had school let alone a test in Biology that day that I knew I would fail. I couldn’t leave my room. I finally did and I remember everyone talking about it. I got home fast that day and was glued to the TV for days watching the News. This was unlike no other. There was no channel out there that wasn’t cover it. Local news, World News, MTV, VH1, everyone.

I went out with my friends that weekend. We always cruised McHenry Blvd back home. If you have seen American Graffiti that is about my town and cruising. It was breath-taking. I saw teenagers, young adults, college students that lined the streets. They were in cars with flags, on the streets with signs and flags. Everyone had come together to grieve and to show support to our troops, to each other to all New Yorkers. It was a moment I will never forget.

I went to New York December 2012, 3 months after 9/11/01. While I was there I went to Ground Zero and took video. I put together my own tribute while there. Please excuse the bad photography but it was 11 years ago.

What do you remember about 9/11? What will you do to commence the day? Pay it forward, give to others.
